Biblical Truth – Tongues That Rise Against You (Isaiah 54:17)

Every Tongue That Rises Against YouCondemning tongues that rise against us

It’s not unusual for evil tongue to rise against us, but how we react is what can make us victors or victims.  The Bible encourages believers to ‘condemn the tongue that rises against you.’  This is not about fighting people, but about standing in biblical authority through Isaiah 54:17 and the blood of Jesus that speaks better things (Hebrews 12:24).

In life—and especially in our walk with God—we will face opposition. Words spoken against us, accusations whispered behind our backs, judgments formed without truth. Scripture does not deny this reality. Instead, it gives us a divine strategy to respond—not in anger, but in authority.

🔹 Understanding Isaiah 54:17 – God’s Promise of Protection

  • “No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn…”

  • Isaiah 54:17 is a covenant promise given to the servants of the Lord. It assures believers that while opposition may arise, no accusation has the final word.

What Does “Condemn” Mean in the Bible?

Biblically, condemning a tongue means:

  • Declaring false accusations invalid

God is good, faithful and just.  He said in Job 22:28 – “You shall declare a thing and it shall be established unto you, and light will shine in your path.”

You are not to be quiet when falsely accused, abused, cursed or threatened.  Rather nullify those words by declaring what God says about you – that you are redeemed by the blood of Jesus and sanctified by His Word which is the truth [John 17.17].

  • Rejecting them under God’s authority

We dont reject evil words spoken against us by arguing, shouting or justifying ourselves, but by rejecting those words by confidently putting yourself under God’s authority and protection.

Father God, I thank You that I’m not what people say that I am but what You say I am.  I fully submit to Your word and reject these evil words spoken against me in Jesus name.

  • Canceling their influence through truth

This is important otherwise evil words can harm us, steal our peace, joy and faith in the Lord.

Lord I disconnect my heart and mind from the effects of these words.  I choose to freely forgive the people who are hurting me with their slander and judgemental words.  I thank You for Your blood that speaks of better things on my behalf.

  • Entrusting judgment to God alone

Lord thank You for Your love, mercies and faithfulness that surround me to protect me from the strife of tongues and plots of men.  You’re my vindicator and I trust in You to prove me innocent, in Jesus name. Amen

  • This authority targets words, not people.

Father, I condemn every power of verbal abuse against me in Jesus name.  Thank You Lord for setting me free from it.  Hallelujah!

Hebrews 12:24 – The Blood That Speaks Better Things

“You have come to Jesus the Mediator of a new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.”

  • The blood of Abel cried out for justice.
  • The blood of Jesus speaks mercy, forgiveness, righteousness, and restoration.
  • When accusations rise, the blood of Jesus becomes our loudest defense.

Why the Blood of Jesus Silences Accusations

  • It answers guilt with forgiveness
  • It replaces judgment with grace
  • It overrides human opinions with heaven’s verdict
  • Every tongue is answered by the voice of redemption.

Biblical Steps to Condemn Tongues That Rise Against You

1. Refuse to Respond in the Flesh

  • Reacting emotionally strengthens accusations. God calls us to respond spiritually.
  • Dont’t argue, shout, justify or threaten.
  • “Do not repay evil for evil.” (Romans 12:17)

2. Speak God’s Word Aloud

  • The Word of God must be declared, not just believed.
  • Declare Isaiah 54:17 over your life and situation.

3. Stand Under the Blood of Jesus

Say: “I stand under the blood of Jesus, which speaks better things over my life than any accusation.”

This shifts the battle from earth to heaven.

4. Release the Accuser to God

“Vengeance is Mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” (Romans 12:19)

Forgiveness —

  1. removes spiritual access the enemy relies on.
  2. shuts any door that was opened to the devil.
  3. allows God to work all things for your good & His glory.

Prayer to Condemn Every Tongue That Rises Against You

>Father God,
I thank You that no weapon formed against me shall prosper.
In the name of Jesus, I condemn every tongue that rises against me in judgment—every lie, false accusation, slander, and evil report.
I stand under the blood of Jesus, the Mediator of the new covenant, whose blood speaks better things over my life.
I forgive those who speak against me and place them in Your hands.
Be my defender, my vindicator, and my shield.
In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

Final Encouragement for Believers Facing Accusations

God may not defend you immediately in public—but He always vindicates you in truth. The blood of Jesus speaks continuously on your behalf.

“This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD.” (Isaiah 54.17)
