This page is written with grief — not triumph. These stories are recorded not to destroy reputations but to protect the flock, to honour those who were harmed, and to remind every believer — including the one writing this page — that none of us stands by our own strength. ✝️
The church is not surprised by human failure. David fell. Peter denied. Samson succumbed. John Mark abandoned the mission. The Bible never sanitises the failures of its greatest figures — and we should not sanitise the failures of ours.
What grieves God — and should grieve us — is not that gifted people struggle and fall. It is when the fall is hidden, denied, or covered with spiritual language while people under their care continue to be harmed. Ezekiel 34 records God's strongest words not against the pagans of Israel's day — but against shepherds who fed themselves at the expense of the flock.
This page names patterns clearly and records what is publicly documented. It does not speculate about what we do not know. It does not claim to know anyone's eternal standing before God. And it does not ignore the real harm that was done to real people — who deserve to be believed and honoured.

Ravi Zacharias
1946–2020 · Christian Apologist · Founder of RZIM
Ravi Zacharias was one of the most celebrated Christian apologists of the 20th and early 21st century — a brilliant, winsome speaker and author who engaged atheists, academics and people of other faiths with extraordinary skill. He founded Ravi Zacharias International Ministries (RZIM) which grew to a global organisation with offices across dozens of countries. His books, lectures and debates shaped the faith of millions worldwide. He spoke at institutions of the highest academic standing and was received by world leaders. He died of cancer in May 2020, mourned by the global Christian community. ✝️
Shortly after his death, allegations of serious and widespread sexual misconduct were brought forward by multiple women — many of whom worked in massage businesses that Zacharias personally owned. An independent investigation commissioned by RZIM and conducted by the law firm Miller & Martin found the allegations to be credible and well-documented. Evidence found on devices and in records confirmed a pattern of sexual abuse over many years. His family and RZIM leadership publicly accepted the findings and issued a formal statement confirming the conclusions of the investigation.
The victims — women who had been in vulnerable positions — were found to have been subjected to manipulation, coercion and abuse by someone they trusted as a man of God. Their courage in coming forward deserves honour and acknowledgement. ✝️
Ravi Zacharias himself taught Jeremiah 17:5 — "Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the LORD." In a painful and sobering irony, the man who warned others not to trust in human leaders became the very warning he preached. This does not invalidate the truth of the verse — it confirms it with devastating precision.
Matthew 7:16 — "By their fruit you will recognise them." The fruit of a ministry is not only measured by what is preached from the platform. It is also measured by what happens behind closed doors. ✝️
Brilliance, eloquence and theological knowledge — no matter how genuine — are not the same as holiness of life. Zacharias could articulate the gospel with extraordinary power while simultaneously living in a way that violated everything he proclaimed. This does not mean his teaching was false — the truth of Scripture stands regardless of who teaches it. But it is a sober reminder that our trust must be in Christ alone — not in any human spokesperson for Christ, however gifted.
Practical application: Be cautious of any ministry that operates without genuine accountability structures — boards that cannot challenge leadership, finances that are not independently audited, and personal behaviour that is protected from scrutiny by the leader's fame or position. ✝️

Jimmy Swaggart
1935– · Televangelist · Louisiana, USA
Jimmy Swaggart was one of the most prominent Pentecostal televangelists of the 1970s and 1980s — a powerful preacher, gospel musician and broadcaster whose ministry reached millions of viewers worldwide. He was among the most watched religious broadcasters in American television history and was an outspoken critic of moral failure in other ministries.
First fall — 1988: Swaggart was exposed for visiting a prostitute in New Orleans. He gave a public, tearful confession on television — "I have sinned against you, my Lord" — which moved many viewers. He was placed on a restoration programme by the Assemblies of God which required him to step down from ministry for a period.
Second fall — 1991: He was found with another prostitute in California. This time he refused the Assemblies of God restoration process, saying "the Lord told me it's flat none of your business." He continued his ministry without completing any accountable restoration process. When asked about it he said — "It is between me and God."
It is this second response — not the sin itself — that places him firmly on this page rather than on the Restored to Grace page. The first fall, met with tearful public confession, showed awareness of accountability. The second, met with defiance of that accountability, shows a different pattern. There is no publicly documented evidence of accountable repentance for the second incident. ✝️
Hebrews 12:17 — "Afterwards, as you know, when he wanted to inherit this blessing, he was rejected. Even though he sought the blessing with tears, he could not change what he had done." Esau sought repentance with tears — but the tears were about the consequences, not genuine transformation. The pattern, not the emotion, is what matters.
Galatians 6:1 — "Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted." Restoration requires submission to the body — not private arrangements with God alone that bypass all human accountability. ✝️
Public tears are not the same as genuine repentance. Repentance involves accountability, submission to correction, transparent restoration and changed behaviour — not just emotional expressions of remorse. A leader who says "it is between me and God" when the sin was committed in public view and harmed the public witness of the church has not understood what accountability means in community. ✝️
"If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin."
Todd Bentley
1976– · Evangelist · Lakeland Revival 2008
Todd Bentley led the Lakeland Revival in Florida in 2008 — one of the most widely watched charismatic events of the 21st century, broadcast live to millions worldwide over several months. Large numbers of people attended and many testified to healings and encounters with God. He was publicly commissioned and endorsed by a group of senior charismatic leaders in a widely viewed ceremony at the height of the revival.
2008: During the Lakeland Revival itself, it was revealed that Bentley had an inappropriate relationship with a female staff member. He subsequently divorced his wife and married this woman. He stepped away from ministry briefly.
Pattern continues: Bentley underwent a widely publicised restoration process and returned to public ministry. However, subsequent years brought further documented allegations of sexual misconduct, substance abuse and spiritual abuse — from multiple sources including former ministry team members. The pattern of fall, claimed restoration and return to ministry without completing sustained accountable restoration has repeated more than once. ✝️
What is particularly concerning is that the public restoration ceremony that returned him to ministry was conducted while the facts of his situation were not fully known to those endorsing him — and some of those same leaders later publicly expressed regret for that ceremony.
1 Timothy 3:2 — "Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach." The requirements of leadership in Scripture are not harsh — but they are clear. Repeated moral failure that is managed rather than genuinely resolved disqualifies from public leadership. ✝️
Matthew 7:20 — "Thus, by their fruit you will recognise them." Sustained fruit over time — not a single dramatic event or restoration ceremony — is the test. ✝️
Dramatic ministry — healing services, revival meetings, supernatural manifestations — is not evidence of a right heart. Signs and wonders have always preceded both genuine moves of God and counterfeit ones. The standard for evaluating a minister is not the scale of their public impact but the consistency of their private character. Be cautious of restoration processes that rush leaders back into public ministry before sustained private transformation has been demonstrated over time. ✝️
"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'"
Rory Alec
Co-Founder of GOD TV · 1966–
Rory Alec co-founded GOD TV with his wife Wendy in 1995 — what became one of the largest Christian television networks in the world, broadcasting to estimated hundreds of millions of viewers across multiple continents. For nearly two decades the couple were one of the most recognised faces of global Christian broadcasting, and GOD TV broadcast some of the most significant charismatic ministry events of the era, including the Lakeland Revival in 2008.
In 2014 Rory Alec stepped down from GOD TV abruptly. It was subsequently made known that he had left his wife Wendy and their children for another woman. Wendy Alec continued with the ministry. No public statement of repentance or accountability has been documented.
The impact on GOD TV and on the many viewers who had followed and trusted the couple's joint public ministry was significant. The abruptness of his departure and the circumstances of his leaving left many people — staff, partners and viewers — without clear answers. ✝️
Malachi 2:16 — "The man who hates and divorces his wife — says the LORD, the God of Israel — does violence to the one he should protect." God takes the covenant of marriage seriously — and takes with equal seriousness the breaking of that covenant by those who proclaim His name publicly.
1 Timothy 3:5 — "If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God's church?" The qualification for ministry leadership begins in the home. ✝️
Global platform and visible ministry success are not evidence of a secure private life. The private is always the foundation of the public — and when the private foundation cracks, the public structure will eventually show it. The willingness to walk away from a marriage and family while continuing to build a public Christian media empire is one of the clearest examples of the disconnect between ministry profile and personal integrity. ✝️
"He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil's trap."
📜 What Scripture Says About Fallen Leaders
These patterns are not new. Scripture addresses the failure of spiritual leaders directly, honestly and with both grace and sobriety. ✝️
Ezekiel 34:1-4 — God's Words to Shepherds Who Exploit the Flock
"Woe to you shepherds of Israel who only take care of yourselves! You eat the curds, clothe yourselves with the wool and slaughter the choice animals but you do not take care of the flock." God's harshest language in the OT is reserved not for Israel's pagan enemies but for shepherds who fed themselves at the flock's expense. ✝️
1 Corinthians 10:12 — Standing Firm
"So if you think you are standing firm — be careful that you don't fall." No one is beyond the reach of temptation. The most gifted, the most anointed, the most celebrated — all stand on the same ground as every other believer. Humility before God is the only safe posture. ✝️
Jeremiah 17:5,7 — Where We Place Our Trust
"Cursed is the one who trusts in man... But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD." Every gifted minister is a vessel — not the source. Our trust must always be in Christ alone. The failure of human leaders is not a failure of the gospel — it is a confirmation of why the gospel points to a perfect Saviour rather than imperfect servants. ✝️
Galatians 6:1 — Restoration Done Rightly
"Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently — but watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted." Genuine restoration is gentle, patient, accountable and transparent. It is not a ceremony. It is not a press release. It is a long, quiet, supervised process of demonstrated character change — with the wellbeing of those who were harmed placed above the career of the one who caused the harm. ✝️
Matthew 7:16,20 — Fruit is the Test
"By their fruit you will recognise them." Not by their platform. Not by the scale of their meetings. Not by the miracles they claim. Not by the tears they shed on television. The fruit — the consistent, observable character of a life over time — is the test. And the fruit is observed most clearly not from the front of a stage but in private, in the home, in the treatment of the vulnerable and in the response to correction. ✝️
Romans 14:12 — Final Judgement Belongs to God
"So then each of us will give an account of ourselves to God." We record patterns. We protect the flock. We test the fruit. But the final accounting is God's alone — for every person named on this page and for every person reading it. ✝️
🙏 Prayer for Guarding Oneself in Holiness
"Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."

Father God,
I come before You not in confidence in my own standing but in complete dependence on Your grace. Your word says the heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked — who can know it? (Jeremiah 17:9). So I ask You to know mine — not I myself.
Search me, O God. Test me. Reveal to me every hidden thing — every compromise I have made peace with, every secret sin I have managed rather than surrendered, every temptation I have flirted with rather than fled from. I want to know what You see — not what I see in myself. (Psalm 19:12)
Guard my heart. Guard my eyes. Guard my words and my footsteps in the secret places where no one else sees. Let me live as consistently before You in private as I speak about You in public — because You see in private (Matthew 6:6) and the day is coming when all that is hidden will be brought into the light.
Lord, I do not want to be found on a page like this. I do not want to preach to others and find myself disqualified. (1 Corinthians 9:27) So I surrender my reputation, my ambitions, my secret struggles and my private thoughts to You — right now.
Give me a genuine fear of You — the fear that keeps a person from sin, not the fear that drives them from Your presence. Give me faithful accountability — people in my life who are permitted to ask the hard questions and who will tell me the truth in love.
Let me be found faithful. Not famous. Not celebrated. Faithful — in private and in public — until the day I stand before You.
🙏 For purity of heart and mind — Psalm 51:10 — "Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me." ✝️
🙏 For accountability in community — Proverbs 27:17 — "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another." Lord give me people who will sharpen me — who will ask the hard questions and love me enough to not let me get away with compromise. ✝️
🙏 For the fear of the LORD — Proverbs 8:13 — "To fear the LORD is to hate evil." Let the fear of Your holiness be the guardrail on my life — stronger than any human accountability. ✝️
🙏 For those who have fallen — Lord have mercy on those named on this page and on all who have fallen from the grace they once proclaimed. Where genuine repentance is still possible — grant it. Where harm was done — comfort the harmed. Where truth is still hidden — bring it into Your light. ✝️
🙏 For those who were harmed — Father heal every person wounded by the failure of someone they trusted as Your representative. Let them not lose their faith in You because of their faith in a person. You are faithful even when Your servants are not. ✝️
